Thankful & Blessed

November is the month where we are reminded of all we have to be thankful for. I love seeing people posting daily about their blessings throughout the month leading up to Thanksgiving. It reminds me how much I have to be thankful for in this business and in my own personal life. While the list of what I am thankful for could be an entire book, here are just a few things I am thankful for:

I am thankful for nature and all of its beauty.
Engagement sessions are one of my favorite things to do because there are typically no props- there are no flowers, no white dresses on hangers, no invitations and centerpieces- just two people who are madly in love. When you can photograph them in nature, the sun glowing at just the right time, it’s magical. I am thankful to have this earth as a natural backdrop.

I am thankful for the sacrifices of others.
This is a no-brainer, right? I am thankful that there are others who are willing to sacrifice so much so that I can do what I love. They give up time with their loved ones. They rush weddings before they’re deployed. They miss holidays and birthdays to make sure that we can celebrate them. They put themselves in danger so that we aren’t. Make it your goal to thank a member of our armed forces this month for their sacrifice.

I am thankful for family.
Not only am I thankful for my husband and two girls, but I am thankful for the families I get to spend a brief amount of time with capturing the love they have for each other. I get to see their smiles and hugs and watch their babies grow. It is such a special experience to witness a family’s love for each other. Family pictures are so important. You will never regret opening that box one day to find old family photos that let you reminisce how your children have grown and how your relationships have strengthened over time.

I am thankful for moments that take your breath away.
This photo was taken in a brief reprieve from the rain. A stolen kiss on these secret steps. It was one of those moments that you know God gave you just so you could capture this love, something to make all the rain worth it. Moments like this are why I became a photographer- to be able to witness love in so many different ways.
